NIT Meghalaya is a new NIT established in 2010. It is currently functioning from a temporary campus in Shillong, the picturesque capital city of Meghalaya.
It completes six years of its existence this year. It has so far produced two batches of B. Tech graduates and the third batch is about to graduate. The first batch of M. Tech is graduating this year. A couple of Ph. D. scholars also have submitted their thesis. About 96% of the eligible candidates of the current batch are placed through campus interviews.
The Institute offers the B. Tech programme in the following five disciplines:
- Computer Science and Engineering,
- Electronics and Communication Engineering,
- Electrical and Electronics Engineering,
- Mechanical Engineering, and
- Civil Engineering
NIT Meghalaya also offers M. Sc, M. Tech and Ph. D programmes in various disciplines
The current faculty strength of NIT Meghalaya is 66 majority of who are with doctoral degrees from premier institutions within the country as well as abroad. In addition to imparting education and guidance to the students the faculty of the Institute engage themselves in research, consultancy and various extension activities.
The students organize two festivals every year:
- Sports and Cultural Festival (Sishir) in February
- Technical Festival (Cognitia) in October
- SPIC MACKAY performances are being organized in the institute premises
The sports & games competitions are spread throughout the year. Students of the Institute participate in national level inter institutional sports and cultural activities.
Students can register for NSS and NCC.
Students reside in institute hostels in the city. Hostels are equipped with Gym and other sports facilities though these are limited in nature.
The following are the Free Student-ships and Scholarships available to the students:
i. Merit Free Student-ship: Tuition fees waived for top performing 5% students based on CGPA earned.
ii. Merit-Cum-means Free Student-ship: Tuition fees waived for 5% students based on CGPA and family income.
Other Scholarships: Scholarships are also available from the state governments, various ministries and private foundations.
