National Institute of Technology Nagaland or NIT Nagaland , a premier institute of higher learning, is one of the thirty-one institutes established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. The basic aim of the Institute is to provide quality technical education, conduct original research of high standards and provide leadership in technological innovations for industrial growth and primarily for enhancing the scope of technical education in the state of Nagaland. The Institute offers under graduate and post graduate programmes in various branches of engineering like Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering and a five year dual degree MSc programme (BSMS) in Materials Science under Department of Science & Humanities. The Institute will offer under graduate programmes in Civil / Mechanical / Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering from the academic year 2016-17.

Location and Accessibility:
By Air: Regular flights from Kolkata and Delhi are available to Dimapur Airport, which is located approximately 14 KM away from NIT Nagaland. 
By Train:Dimapur is very well connected to the different parts of India through a main line station of North-East Frontier Railway. The distance between the railway station and the Institute is about 18 km.
By Bus: Several buses are plying within all major cities in North East India viz., Guwahati, Shillong, Kohima etc. to Dimapur. Apart from buses, private taxis at reasonable rate are also available from all the cities referred above.

The Central Library of NIT Nagaland, which is one of the important central facilities of the Institute, supports teaching, learning, research and creative endeavors of the Institute. The Central Library provides modern collection of knowledge resources and innovative information through acquisition, organization and dissemination of knowledge resources and also provides on - demand access to the available intellectual resources and research products to NIT Nagaland faculty and students, as well as to the greater community of learners beyond NIT Nagaland with the support of value added services to the users.

Presently the Central Library has a collection of more than 7,200 books in the area of Engineering, Technology, Basic Sciences, Management, Economics, Social Sciences and Humanities including text books, reference books etc. The Central Library also having 1400+ of e-books on Electrical, Electronics, Communication, Civil, Mechanical & Computer Science and other non-book materials such as NPTEL videos, CDs/CD-ROMs, etc. The library also has latest collections of periodicals, magazines and newspapers. The services and operations in the Central Library are fully computerized using Integrated Library Management Software with OPAC and RFID Technology. RFID tagging of entire collections are up to date.
